A Maine State prison inmate and his wife were arrested in Waldoboro Oct. 9 on charges related to escaping state custody.
According to Waldoboro Police, Officer Jeremy Joslyn and Chief Bill Labombarde arrested Shawn Benner, 28, and his wife, Amanda Benner, 24, of Rockland, in the parking lot of the Waldoboro Pawn Shop during the early afternoon.
Shawn Benner was a Dept. of Corrections Inmate in the custody of the Maine State Prison Pre-release Facility.
According to Police, around 12:15 p.m., Joslyn received information indicating Shawn Benner reportedly left his work assignment in the company of Amanda Benner. The couple was last seen traveling south on Rt. 1 toward Waldoboro in a blue, 1999 Ford Taurus sedan.
Officer Joslyn observed the Taurus in front of Bullwinkle’s Restaurant and followed the vehicle south on Rt. 1 until the Benners pulled into the Waldoboro Pawn Shop.
Following their arrest, the Benners were transported to the Waldoboro Police Dept. and subsequently turned over to the Maine State Police.
Shawn Benner was charged with “Escape” and Amanda Benner was charged with “Aiding Escape.”
