A late night fire on Dec. 27 caused “extensive” damage to Huber’s Market in Wiscasset according to storeowner Kyle Yacoben. The fire is believed to have started in the basement and officials are investigating the possibility of arson.
According to Yacoben, the front door of the market was “smashed” and money was taken from the cash register.
An alert motorist witnessed smoke coming from the store at approximately 11 p.m. and alerted the Wiscasset Fire Chief.
Wiscasset Fire Chief Rob Bickford declined comment pending an investigation from law enforcement and the state Fire Marshal’s office.
