Don’t let the break in rainfall and the early withdrawal of a Winter Weather Advisory by the National Weather Service (NWS) on Monday lull you into complacency, warns the Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency (LCEMA) – there’s still more dangerous weather on the way for Monday evening.
“It looks like at least another two inches” of snow or sleet are due to arrive in Lincoln County Monday evening at about 5 p.m. when temps slide below freezing, according to LCEMA Deputy Director Kimberly White-Kaiser. “We’re also concerned with existing ponding on roads and areas of black ice freezing over – it’s really going to be a skating rink tonight.”
White-Kaiser’s warning is based on the latest NWS forecast which indicates that as the center of the present storm tracks north-northeast along the coast it will haul in considerable precipitation and sub-freezing temps behind it. There will also be an increase in winds, coming out of the west-northwest at 15-25 mph, according to the NWS.
Unfortunately for Lincoln County, the timing for all this should coincide with the evening commute, with some of the fresh snowfall concealing the icy spots on roads. Motorists should use extra caution and decrease their speed, the LCEMA warns. Motorists should also refrain from driving through flooded road areas, since the road under that water may have been washed away. Instead, locate and use an alternate route, the LCEMA warns. The NWS timing for the incoming weather tends to be confirmed with forecast models on intellicast.com and wgme.com.
There have been no new weather alerts issued by the NWS at the time of this posting. The next NWS bulletin is expected between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it becomes available.
