Damariscotta and Newcastle Fire Departments responded to a structure fire involving a small shed on the Lessner Rd. in Damariscotta just after noon today.
Newcastle provided mutual aid support on the call, according to Newcastle Fire Chief Clayton Huntley. Their pumper truck drew water from Biscay Pond and transported it back to the scene.
Huntley said the structure was almost fully involved when firefighters arrived on scene. It took just under a half hour from the fire tones to get the fire under control, he said.
“We are unsure of the cause yet,” said Huntley. “Our firefighters are still digging away in there.”
Just after 1 p.m., no flames were visible from the structure. The shed was darkened from smoke damage. Firefighters were able to clear the scene around 2 p.m.
