Jefferson Fire and Rescue responded to the scene of a serious car accident on the Hinks Rd. around 4:30 p.m. today.
The victim was transported from the scene to Peaselee’s Quik Stop in Whitefield. From there, the individual was transferred to a Life Flight helicopter around 6 p.m. and transported to the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. At this time the identity of the individual has not been released.
Jefferson Fire Chief Sheridan Bond said witnesses reported the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed just before the accident.
“The driver went off the road at the Sunrise Park turnoff,” Bond said. “He lost control continuing down the Hinks Rd. and went off the opposite side of the road.”
According to Bond, the driver was incoherent so responders were unable to determine whether there were any passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
According to The Lincoln County News reporter John Maguire on the scene, responders have conducted a search of the area, apparently without finding any other victims.
The accident involved a blue vehicle, Maguire said. Damage to the vehicle is so extensive Maguire said he is unable to visually determine the vehicle’s make or model.
The crash site is a couple hundred feet beyond the Sunrise Park turnoff, Maguire said. Diagonal skidmarks are visible on the road surface.
The Lincoln County News will follow with a complete report in the Aug. 21 edition and will post other details here as they become available.
