Two juveniles are facing burglary and criminal mischief charges as a result of a police investigation into a break in of the Waldoboro Post Office May 31.
According to the Waldoboro Police Chief Bill Labombarde, Officers Thomas Bartunek and Officer Mike Dutil and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reported burglary in progress at the Waldoboro Post Office around 11:25 p.m.
Detective Lance Mitchell from the Waldoboro Police Dept. and an inspector from the U.S. Postal Service were also called to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers confirmed that entry had been made inside the building, however; the suspects had already fled.
After speaking with several witnesses, officers detained two male juveniles in connection to the burglary and brought them to the police station for questioning. Both juveniles were subsequently charged with burglary and criminal mischief and released back to their parents.
Upon further investigation, Chief Labombarde stated the juveniles also admitted to several other incidents that have occurred throughout the community over the past several weeks.
Citizen involvement was a major factor in solving this burglary, Labombarde said, adding he would like to thank the concerned citizens who reported the burglary while it was occurring.
