The Bremen Fire Department will soon purchase a rescue truck to replace the old ambulance they currently use.
They plan to buy a used truck from a fire department in Pennsylvania, said Bremen Selectman and first responder Hank Nevins. The truck they’re looking at costs about $20,000, plus around $4000 for lettering, a new radio and other miscellaneous equipment and expenses.
They hope to have the truck by June 11, Nevins said.
“It’s going to be good,” Nevins said. “It’s going to make us more versatile.”
The truck will be paid for with money from the Rescue Truck Reserve Fund, which has just over $24,000 set aside for this purchase. The Bremen Board of Selectmen authorized the expenditure of those funds at their meeting on June 2.
Currently, when the Bremen Fire Dept. responds to an accident, they have to bring the old ambulance they use as a rescue truck which carries first responder equipment, a fire truck and their utility truck with rescue equipment, Nevins said.
With the new truck, they will be able to sell the ambulance and move all the equipment to the new rescue truck. It will only require the rescue truck and the fire truck to respond to accidents, plus the new truck will provide increased towing capacity, Nevins said.
After they have the truck on hand, the Bremen Fire Dept., will hold a practice burn at a property on Fogler Road June 25 and 26, Nevins said.
The department will burn an old structure on the road to practice various aspects of firefighting. During those two days, part of Fogler Road will be reduced to one lane, Nevins said.
