Bremen Selectman Tom Kostenbader has decided against seeking re-election this year.
Kostenbader, a selectman during the 1990s prior to his November 2010 election to complete the term of former Selectman Bob Miller, said he likes to travel and the demands of public service often preclude such leisurely pursuits.
“I stepped in this last year to help out and get some things straightened out, which we did accomplish,” Kostenbader said.
Kostenbader said he would remain available to the town for advice and support.
John Marsh has announced plans to run for Kostenbader’s seat. Marsh is running for a three-year term.
Also at the town meeting in March, Bremen will also elect a member of the Bremen Harbor Committee, two members of the Bremen Planning Board and a member of the Bremen School Board, all to three-year terms.
John Mohr is a member of the Bremen Harbor Committee and the Bremen Planning Board; his terms end in March. Bremen Planning Board Chairman Chester Fesmire, Bremen School Board Chairman F. Parker Renelt and Bremen School Board member Kerry Weber will also complete their terms in March.
Renelt, who also chairs the district board, has said he will run for re-election, while Weber has said she will not. Bremen chose to reduce the size of the Bremen School Board to three members in 2010.
Thus far, Barney Burrall has taken out nomination papers for a seat on the Bremen Planning Board, while neither incumbent has done so. No one has taken out nomination papers for the harbor committee, Bremen Deputy Town Clerk Joanne McGregor said.
Nomination papers for all positions are available at the town clerk’s office. The filing deadline is Mon., Feb. 13.
