The Bristol Board of Selectmen awarded a major paving project to Lane Construction Corporation at their June 22 meeting.
Lane Construction bid $312,748.60, about $27,000 less than the closest of four other contractors.
The paving will take place on portions of Fogler, Foster, Moxie Cove and Old County roads.
The property lies between Rock Schoolhouse Road and Rt. 32, town officials said.
Bristol Town Administrator Kristine Poland said the company didn’t give a reason for offering the land as a donation. The entire parcel, valued at $50,700, is currently enrolled in tree growth, and the management plan is coming up for renewal, she said.
The use of the property, should the town vote to accept it, will be “for the selectmen and the town to decide,” Poland said. “It’s hard to say, at this point, what they’ll do with it.”
In other business, the selectmen met with Henry Joannes to discuss the status of Oak Hill Road. Johannes asked the selectmen to arrange for maintenance of the road.
Selectman Bill Benner, however, said the town couldn’t maintain the road without voter approval, as it’s a private road.
The selectmen also reviewed a $44,850 estimate for repairs to several town bridges.
