Wiscasset Police have charged a Bristol man as a result of their investigation into an incident behind the Wiscasset Municipal Building that left a Damariscotta man hospitalized, July 10.
According to a statement from Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline, following an interview at Wiscasset Police headquarters July 11, police charged James “BJ” Fitzpatrick, 63, of Bristol, with two Class C felonies, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred July 10. Responding to a call of a man down, Wiscasset Police Officer Perry Hatch responded to the parking lot of the Wiscasset Municipal Building at approximately 9:25 a.m. and found Michael Hanna, 38, of Damariscotta, on the pavement and bleeding, according to a department press release.
Hanna was transported to Maine Medical Center by Wiscasset Ambulance Service for his injuries, according to the release.
Witnesses at the scene reported an altercation between two male subjects, and Hanna allegedly was in a physical fight with the operator of a vehicle and then was dragged by the suspect’s vehicle, sustaining serious injuries, according to the release.
According to Wiscasset Police, investigation of the incident continues and more charges may be filed at a later date.
