The Bristol Budget Committee needs volunteers.
The town has only seven applicants for the 12-member committee.
The committee meets with the Bristol Board of Selectmen, the Bristol School Committee and other officials to review the education and town budgets every year.
The committee then recommends a yes or no vote for every budget question on the annual town meeting warrant.
The committee might also meet occasionally during the year to make recommendations in the event of a special town meeting or to address other fiscal matters.
The town would like to appoint the committee soon. The annual budget review process takes place in February.
Bristol voters changed the way the town forms the committee at annual town meeting in March.
The voters previously elected half of the 12-member committee during annual town meeting. The meeting moderator appointed the other half. All members served one-year terms.
Now, residents volunteer to serve on the committee. The selectmen appoint all 12 members from among the volunteers. The selectmen will initially appoint the volunteers for one to three years in order to stagger the end of the terms.
Applications are available at the town office in Bristol Mills.
