The Bristol Board of Selectmen wants the state to “rebuild” Harrington Road instead of implementing the “Light Capital Paving” the Department of Transportation plans for this construction season.
Bristol Town Administrator Kristine Poland said the selectmen “want the state to do a complete rebuild because the road is in such bad shape.”
The condition of Harrington Road, which connects Rt. 130 in Bristol with Rt. 129 in South Bristol, is a frequent source of citizen complaints.
Municipal officials often refer to the DOT’s “Light Capital Paving” derisively as a coat of paint or “skim” coat insufficient to address structural problems.
In other business, the selectmen re-elected Chad Hanna chairman of the board.
The selectmen fined a property owner on Yellow Head Road $1500 for violating the shoreland zoning ordinance.
The property owner must also remove a patio built in violation of the ordinance.
Lincoln County Television will soon install cameras at the town office, Poland said. At present, a volunteer films all selectmen’s meetings. The new system will not require a dedicated operator.
