Bristol voters will decide whether to authorize the transfer of surplus funds for a fire truck payment and other expenses at a special town meeting.
The meeting will take place at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18 at the Bristol town office.
The voters will decide whether to authorize the Bristol Board of Selectmen to transfer $11,987 for the truck payment, $2,304.07 for legal fees and $1,200 to the Olde Bristol Days account.
Bristol voters approved the purchase of the fire truck at annual town meeting, but did not set aside money for a loan payment because the town did not know the amount of the payments, Bristol Town Administrator Kristine Poland said in an email.
The town “had more expenses for legal fees than anticipated and exceeded the authorized amount, mainly due to the Hart boundary issue,” Poland said.
Victor and Marjorie Hart, of Round Pond, sued the town to establish the boundary line between their Northern Point Road property and an adjacent strip of town land. The parties have since signed a boundary-line agreement.
The town authorized $5,000 for Olde Bristol Days at annual town meeting, as it does every year.
The Bristol Parks and Recreation Commission organized the festival “the past few years, and was able to cover expenses through park revenues and fundraising,” Poland said. “Because the town took over the event this year, and there was no active fundraising, we need to cover the shortfall through surplus.”
The balance of the surplus, as of the end of 2012, was $951,268.
