About 15 Bristol citizens unanimously authorized the use of surplus funds to replace the school’s overboard discharge system at a special town meeting Oct. 10.
The town will spend up to $86,000 to replace the overboard discharge system with a septic system.
The project budget includes a $9041 bill for the design of the new system, $66,780 for Hanley Construction Inc. to remove the old system and install the new one and an approximately $10,000 contingency.
The Dept. of Environmental Protection will reimburse the town for 50 percent of the project cost.
The replacement of the overboard discharge with the septic system, on town property next to the athletics field, will address citizen concerns and improve the health of the Pemaquid River and its shellfish flats, AOS 93 Superintendent Steve Bailey said.
The work is already in progress and should reach “substantial completion” by Nov. 30, Bristol Town Administrator Kristine Poland said.
