A broken insulator brought down transmission lines on Union Road in Waldoboro at approximately 2 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, knocking out power to 6,300 customers, Central Maine Power Co. spokesperson Gail Rice said.
Approximately 2,200 households were back online within an hour, Rice said. The remaining power was restored at approximately 8 a.m., she said. The Miller School, in Waldoboro, announced a 2-hour delay, due to the outages.
According to Rice, CMP learned at approximately 2 a.m. some of their substations were out. The outages were later determined to be the result of a defective insulator, a device that sits between wires and the cross arm of a wooden pole to insulate the lines.
The insulator broke and brought down the wires, Rice said. Waldoboro was the most heavily affected by the downed wires, with CMP’s website still reporting 2,213 customers in Waldoboro without power at approximately 8:28 a.m.
According to Rice, the website has not been updated to reflect the current situation and power has been restored to all customers.
