Lincoln County Clerk of Courts Kelly Cluff faces a misdemeanor domestic violence assault charge after allegedly biting and throwing objects at her husband at their Brunswick home on June 29.
The Brunswick Police Department received a call from “an individual alleging that his wife was throwing things at him, intoxicated, and biting him,” Capt. Mark Waltz said.
Officers responded, identified Cluff as the aggressor, and arrested her at 8:20 p.m. on a class D charge of domestic violence assault. The husband sustained minor injuries, Waltz said.
Cluff, 45, was booked at the Brunswick Police Department and released on $1,000 bail. The bail is unsecured, which means she did not pay anything up front, but would have to pay $1,000 if she misses her court date.
A class D charge carries a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.
A court employee said Cluff was not available. Maine Director of Court Information Mary Ann Lynch declined to answer questions about Cluff’s current employment status. “I have no comment on a personnel matter,” she said.
Cluff has worked in the State of Maine Judicial Branch for almost 12 years, Lynch said.
She was an administrative clerk in Bath and the acting clerk of courts in Lincoln County before she was named Lincoln County clerk of courts in late 2010, according to The Lincoln County News archives.
The clerk of courts oversees daily operations for Wiscasset District Court and Lincoln County Superior Court.
