Business Rt. 1 near Yellowfront Market in Damariscotta is temporarily closed, as construction crews dig a trench needed to place drainage pipe for the sidewalk expansion.
The trench runs out from the Mobius section of Bus. Rt. 1 and across the roadway.
The road is expected to be re-opened to traffic later this morning.
Drivers are being re-routed from Main Street, to take a left on Church Street, advancing to take a right on Chapman Street and then drivers may advance to Bus. Rt. 1.
From southbound Bus. Rt. 1, drivers may take a left at School Street to get to Bristol, or a right on Chapman Street to get downtown Damariscotta/Newcastle.
