Two Damariscotta businesses fell victim to theft between Jan. 14 and Jan. 18, Damariscotta Police Chief Steve Drake said.
The businesses, the Café at Maine Coast Book Shop and Romeo’s Pizza are each located within a mile of Cherry Gallery and Cottage Gardens, two Church Street businesses and recent victims of theft and vandalism.
“We’re not sure” if the incidents are related, Drake said. “We won’t rule out anything.”
The thief or thieves stole an undisclosed amount of cash from Romeo’s Pizza during the weekend of Jan. 14-16, Drake said.
The theft at the café took place during the evening/early morning of Jan. 17-18. “The doors were unlocked in the morning and cash was taken,” Drake said. It’s unclear, he said, whether the thief/thieves had access to a key or broke in to the building.
Both incidents are still under investigation, along with the Cherry Gallery and Cottage Gardens incidents, Drake said.
Anne Gabel, Manager of Romeo’s Pizza confirmed the theft and said the thief or thieves cut the business’ phone lines. “We’ll hope they get caught,” Gabel said.
The Cottage Gardens vandal(s) also cut phone lines.
