Calm Moments Day Spa, which opened in Oct. 2008 as the national economic recession neared its peak, is closing, according to owner Rhonda Nordstrom.
“I guess there were several reasons, but it just is not happening here,” she said.
The Calm Moments spa will be open until Friday, Aug. 21. After that date, customers can receive special beauty services at Nordstrom’s new facility in Rockland called RHEAL Day Spa, 453 Main St.
“We will also honor gift certificates from the Damariscotta store at the Rockland spa,” she said.
The facility offers most beauty treatments except hair, including European microdermabrasion, microcurrent and ultrasonic facials. Also, they offer massages, manicure services, body wraps and can accommodate groups, she said.
At her Rockland location, Nordstrom said she hosts customers in a new 2800 square foot facility that is more luxurious and is easier on the environment.
“We have tried to make our services as green as possible,” she said.
While Nordstrom said she was blue at the closure of her Damariscotta spa, she said she felt she did her best but it just did not work for her.
Despite the business decision, she said she fell in love with the community and plans to still come down to shop in the local stores.
“It is a wonderful little community,” she said.
