A 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier hit and broke a utility pole on Willow Lane in Wiscasset Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 13. The male driver sustained minor injuries.
Stephen J. Corbin, 26, of Woolwich, was driving the sedan east on Willow Lane when, probably as the result of a vehicle defect, the vehicle left the roadway on the eastbound side and hit the pole, snapping it at the base.
“He said he lost steering – that’s why he ended up going off the road,” Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline said. The driver told police that the vehicle might have had front-end problems.
Corbin was wearing a seat belt and the vehicle’s airbags deployed, according to Cline. Corbin sustained minor injuries. “He’s fine,” Cline said.
Lincoln County Communications paged emergency services to the scene at 1:50 p.m.
The Wiscasset Ambulance Service, the Wiscasset Fire Department, and the Wiscasset Police Department responded to the scene. Blagden’s Wrecker Service removed the car. Central Maine Power Co. responded to replace the pole.
