A 23-year-old woman was charged with operating under the influence after the vehicle she was driving struck a building in Dresden the evening of Sunday, Jan. 15.
Leah St. Hilaire, of Sabbatus, was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Passat east on Patterson Road (Route 197) near River Road (Route 128) in Dresden, according to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Rand Maker. St. Hilaire was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
According to Maker, St. Hilaire did not stop at the intersection. The vehicle continued across the road and hit the Eastern River Self Storage building.
St. Hilaire reported knee pain, but declined medical attention, Maker said. The vehicle sustained damage to its driver’s side.
The building was also damaged, although the damage to the exterior of the building did not appear to be extensive.
The accident appears to have been alcohol-related, Maker said. St. Hilaire was arrested on charges of class D operating under the influence and class E violating conditions of release, both misdemeanors. She was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
Deputies Justin Drake and Dwight Fowles were the investigating officers. The Dresden Fire Department also responded to the scene.
