A Feb. 7 car-pole accident on Rt. 130 (Bristol Road) and the resultant power outage complicated Super Bowl plans for residents of Bremen, Bristol, Damariscotta and South Bristol.
According to a Central Maine Power (CMP) spokesperson, the accident broke pole #124 near the intersection of Rt. 130 and Rt. 129 in Bristol around 5 p.m., leaving approximately 1408 customers without power.
The initial outage affected 4081 customers, CMP spokesperson Gail Rice said. At 6:13 p.m., crews restored power to 2807 customers. For the remaining 1274 customers, the lights didn’t come on until 9:40 p.m., after the crews replaced the pole.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Michael Benner, 22, of Bristol, was driving southbound on Rt. 130 in a 1992 Ford F-150 owned by Reeva Wyman, also of Bristol. According to the accident report, Benner lost control of the vehicle due to slush on the road. As a result, Benner’s vehicle left the roadway and struck the utility pole, breaking it in half.
Benner and a passenger, Tobin Burnham, 30, were not injured.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the Bristol Fire Dept. and the Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
The accident caused $2500 in damage to the CMP-owned pole.
