A car slammed into a metal post next to a gas pump at the Big Apple on Rt. 1 in Waldoboro Sept. 13, narrowly missing a customer who was using the pump at the time.
According to Waldoboro Police Officer Jeff Fuller there do not appear to be any serious injuries as a result of the crash. The details of the accident are still unclear, and police will be conducting further interviews, Fuller said.
However, witnesses at the scene told Fuller that Kali Isis, 52 of Bristol, was southbound on Rt. 1 in a Subaru station wagon when she attempted to take a left into the Big Apple parking lot, cutting off James Lawrence, 73 of Biddeford, who was northbound on Rt. 1 in a 2010 Dodge Avenger.
Lawrence swerved to avoid Isis and crashed into a metal post next to a gas pump. He did not hit the pump.
Erica Mullins, 26 of Rockport, was pumping gas at the pump that Lawrence crashed into.
“I heard a crash, looked up and saw a car coming at me,” Mullins said.
Mullins was not injured, and Lawrence missed her SUV “by inches,” she said.
Both Lawrence and Isis were hospitalized, although neither appears to have sustained serious injuries, Fuller said. There were no passengers in either vehicle, Fuller said.
