Central Maine Power customers will soon see a new logo in their mail as the company updates its familiar brand with the same name but a new look.
“For our customers who count on us for safe, reliable power and outstanding customer service, we’ll still be Central Maine Power,” said Sara J. Burns, president of Central Maine Power. “We’re also part of Iberdrola, an innovative, global leader in renewable energy and environmental responsibility. Our new brand brings our past and future together.”
Central Maine Power (CMP) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, the U.S. branch of the global energy leader, Iberdrola S.A. based in Spain. Iberdrola acquired CMP and several other utilities in the New England and New York State with its purchase of Energy East in September 2008.
The new logo includes elements of the Iberdrola brand that were inspired by nature. The leaf in the logo represents respect for the environment. The blue and orange drops represent energy resources used by Iberdrola around the globe – blue for wind and water, orange for natural gas and the sun.
The new logo will be phased-in during the next few months. New logos will first appear on bills, printed materials, and the company website. Company facilities and vehicles will get the new look later under normal maintenance and replacement schedules. CMP’s sister utilities, New York State Gas & Electric and Rochester Gas & Electric will make a similar change beginning this month.
CMP has had many different looks since 1899, when it was incorporated in Oakland, as the Oakland Electric Light Company at a site on the Messalonskee Stream. The most recent update was in the mid-1980s when the company introduced the familiar green pine tree logo.
“Our roots are here in Maine, and we’ll still be Central Maine Power with the same great people working for our customers,” said Burns. “We’re also part of an exciting new company with the resources and innovation to invest in our transmission system and new smart grid technology. This new look is a sign of Iberdrola’s commitment to our customers and our entire state.”
