A snowmobiler who went through a small patch of ice off Rt. 126 in Whitefield on Dec. 8 may be charged for operating while intoxicated and operating an unregistered snowmobile, according to Warden Steve Allarie with the Warden’s Service.
Thomas Brewer, 41 Whitefield, was driving his snowmobile in “a few inches of snow” on the power lines about a quarter mile off Rt. 126 (Gardiner Road). His snowmobile broke through a small patch of ice covering a “wet hole about three feet deep,” Allarie said.
Brewer went over his handlebars, Allarie said. He walked out of the woods to a residence at 90 Gardiner Rd. and knocked on the door, Allarie said.
The resident, an elderly woman, did not let Brewer in, and called the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office around 6 p.m. LCSO Deputies and Wardens responded to the scene.
Brewer was transported by ambulance to Maine General Hospital in Augusta, where he was treated for minor hypothermia and released, Allarie said.
Pending test results, alcohol-related charges may be filed against Brewer; authorities also discovered that Brewer’s snowmobile was unregistered, Allarie said.
