A small section of Church Street in Damariscotta has been reduced to one lane due to damage to the road.
According to Damariscotta Town Manager Greg Zinser, a depression has damaged the road near the intersection of Church and School streets. The area is marked with barriers and cones and Damariscotta’s public safety departments have been informed of the damage.
“A large pot hole or sink hole has started to form and we are concerned that the road has started to be compromised,” Zinser said. “We are looking into it and we are dealing with one lane for now. We don’t know the extent of the damage so we are being cautious.”
The town hopes to have an engineer inspect the road, possibly as soon as Thurs., May 7, to help determine the town’s course of action, Zinser said.
“Right now it’s a public safety issue and we are looking into it,” Zinser said.
