An approximately three-quarter-of-a-mile section of the Medomak River in Waldoboro will remain closed to clamming until July 1, due to a conservation closure approved by the Waldoboro Board of Selectmen on May 10.
The section of river has been closed to clamming by state order for some time due to contamination. The state recently approved reopening the clam-flats, but the Waldoboro Shellfish Conservation Committee unanimously supports retaining the closure until July 1 to allow the clams in the flats to mature until prices are higher, said Shellfish Conservation Committee Chairman Abden Simmons.
The selectmen voted unanimously to approve the conservation closure.
