What may be the last winter storm of the season is packing more punch than originally forecast, according to the National Weather Service. Forecast snowfall totals have gone up to 10 to 14 inches and winds are now forecast to gust at 25 mph, according to the NWS. The storm is expected to impact both the morning and evening commutes, according to forecasts.
The deteriorating forecast has caused a number of early closing announcements in Lincoln County. (These closings are all for Tuesday, March 19.) The Lincoln County Offices and Courthouse will be closed all day. The Bristol Town Office will be closed and the town meeting has been postponed until March 26 at 7 p.m. (Both of these closings also separately reported on The Lincoln County News website.) The Whitefield Town Office will also be closed, and the scheduled selectmen’s meeting has been cancelled. A parking ban has been announced for Tuesday in Boothbay Harbor.
The event is forecast to bring snowfall beginning in the early morning hours of Tuesday and continue through the day. Generally, temps are forecast to stay below freezing, so most precipitation should come as snowfall with the exception of Tuesday afternoon when temps may climb high enough for mixed precipitation, according to the NWS.
The Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 4 a.m. until midnight on Tuesday, according to the NWS.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it is obtained.
