Gale force winds could cause scattered power outages in Lincoln County during blizzard conditions forecast to hit the area on Sunday, according to Central Maine Power Company. CMP has equipped and fueled utility trucks, and key CMP personnel are holding periodic pre-storm planning sessions to discuss staffing levels and finalize storm-response plans.
“We’ve put our storm response plan into motion; continue to watch the forecast; and are getting crews, equipment, and materials in place,” said Gail Rice, spokesperson for CMP. “The snow is expected to be dry and less likely to coat tree limbs and wires, so high winds and slippery roads are likely to be the primary cause of any outages. We are also very concerned about the working conditions for our crews, who will face difficult travel, high winds, and dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills.”
CMP is coordinating its storm preparation efforts with other utilities in the North Atlantic Mutual Assistance Group, or NAMAG, and is lining up contract crews to assist local crews if the storm causes widespread damage. CMP is also keeping the Maine Emergency Management Agency informed on preparation efforts.
