The Central Maine Power Co. (CMP) redoubled their efforts to restore power in Lincoln County following set-backs in the wake of storm system that moved through the area Sun. night through Mon. afternoon.
When the work started this morning, CMP was facing 1973 new power outages in Lincoln County as result of the storm, making a total of 3461. The number had been down to 1508 before new outage reports began coming in during the storm, according to CMP.
Lincoln County power outages were down to 936 as of 5 p.m. on Mon., according to the CMP.
“The latter stages of a storm recovery are generally more difficult because each job brings on fewer and fewer customers,” said CMP spokesman John Carroll. “In this case though, the work didn’t just slow down; we spent a lot of the morning and early afternoon going backwards. That’s tough on everyone — customers and our crews.”
As crews prepare to work through another night, CMP still expects to complete the storm restoration in most communities by late Mon. night. Residents in some communities who have not had their power restored by 9 p.m. may be without power until Tues., according to the CMP.
Lincoln County towns with areas of power outages as of 6:15 p.m. Mon. include: Boothbay (14 roads), Boothbay Harbor (4 roads), Bremen (13 roads), Bristol (8 roads), Damariscotta (2 roads), Edgecomb (12 roads), Newcastle (5 roads), Nobleboro (8 roads), South Bristol (2 roads), Southport (7 roads), Waldoboro (7 roads), Westport Island (2 roads), Whitefield (2 roads) and Wiscasset (11 roads).
“Crews will be working to meet our goal to get everyone back on tonight (Mon.),” Carroll said. “Travel will be slow and we hope drivers will take extra care when they pass crews working on the roadside.”
