U.S. Coast Guard rescue crews and a Boothbay Region Ambulance Service paramedic medically evacuated a 2-year-old girl from Monhegan Island at approximately 12:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Boothbay Harbor received a request from Lincoln County Communications at approximately 8:45 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 23 for assistance transporting a Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy and detective as well as a Boothbay Region Ambulance Service paramedic for a possible domestic disturbance and medical emergency involving a 2-year-old girl.
The 2-year-old was reported to be stable, but was lethargic and exhibiting flu-like symptoms. A Coast Guard Station Boothbay Harbor 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew and Boothbay Region Ambulance Service paramedic evacuated the girl, along with her father, to a waiting Boothbay Region ambulance at Station Boothbay Harbor. The ambulance brought the girl to LincolnHealth’s Miles Campus in Damariscotta for further medical evaluation.
“It’s critical that government agencies work together up here in Maine where the weather’s harsh and resources are remote,” said Lt. Scott McCann, Coast Guard Sector Northern New England command duty officer. “The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Boothbay Region Ambulance are indispensible partners who frequently help us out and last night we were able to return the favor.”
