As part of the Lincoln Home’s ongoing Business Icon series, on Monday, Feb. 25, Colby & Gale president and owner Robert Clifford will tell the story of the Damariscotta fuel oil company, from its humble beginnings to the present day. The story is one of interest, as it follows the dream of two local businessmen who created a whole new company, and realized success through their hard work and determination.
Colby & Gale began in 1933 as Etheridge Oil. It was purchased by Ken Colby and Charlie Gale in April 1946. It was then the name changed to Colby & Gale Inc. and they set up shop in the Day Block Building in Damariscotta. At that point, the company had two trucks; Colby drove one and Gale drove the other.
Since then, Colby & Gale has grown into a full service, community-based company, with 36 employees, tanks with capacity for 200,000 gallons and 22 trucks which haul between 3200 and 3300 gallons each.
Come meet Robert Clifford and enjoy the story of this local business icon. To register, please contact Carolyn at 563-3305 ext 14, or just drop in.
