A Round Pond woman has been transported to the hospital after she turned into the path of a Pepsi delivery truck, causing a collision on Route 1 in Edgecomb at approximately 11:30 a.m.,
Wednesday, Jan. 7.
Emergency medical services and fire department personnel helped remove the woman, identified as Jean McAlice, 83, from the vehicle and position her on a stretcher. A Wiscasset ambulance transported
her to the Miles Campus of LincolnHealth in Damariscotta.
McAlice was later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to Alan Crowell, spokesperson for LincolnHealth. McAlice’s status was listed as fair as of Jan. 8 a spokesperson for Maine Medical Center said.
McAlice was driving a Dodge Dakota four-door pickup truck northbound on Route 1 in Edgecomb when she made a left-hand turn into the pathway of the larger truck operated by Justin Bearce, 32, of Waterville,
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Brendan Kane said.
According to Kane, the woman was attempting to turn into Sheepscot River Pottery at 34 Route 1. The car was pushed into an embankment off a driveway to Sheepscot
River Pottery.
The passenger side of the Dakota sustained significant damage with the passenger side and back windows broken and the back passenger side wheel separated from the
vehicle.
The Edgecomb Fire Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wiscasset Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
Both the north and southbound lane of Route 1 remained open with fire department personnel directing traffic away from the accident scene. The accident scene was
cleared at approximately 1:21 p.m.
