A Connecticut woman with ancestral ties to Lincoln County won the July #LCNme365 photo contest with 49.4 percent of the votes.
Lynn Rice Scozzafava, of Torrington, Conn., snapped the photo of a sunset with her iPhone 7 behind a home on Bristol Road in Damariscotta the evening of July 9. Every time she visits Maine, Rice Scozzafava said she takes 20-30 photos of the sunsets because of the ever-changing beauty of the lights.
“There are always gorgeous sunsets, but there’s nothing like a summer sunset in Maine,” Rice Scozzafava said.
Rice Scozzafava, an English teacher at Litchfield High School, said she visits Damariscotta often. While she may be “from away,” she has deep ancestral ties to Lincoln County. Joshua Gamage, who died in Bristol in 1744, is her ninth great-grandfather, she said.
Rice Scozzafava reads The Lincoln County News regularly online and always picks up a print edition when she’s in the area, which is how she learned about the contest.
“I am thrilled to find out I won, not just because it’s from a newspaper I trust and a company I support, but also because I feel like I’m not from away. It really makes me feel like part of the community,” Rice Scozzafava said.
In addition to having her photo featured on the front page of The Lincoln County News, Rice Scozzafava will receive a $50 gift certificate from July’s contest sponsor, Riverside Butcher Co., of Damariscotta.
“I love August (Avantaggio) and his whole team at Riverside. I can’t say enough good stuff about them,” Rice Scozzafava said. “I’m so thrilled to win this month!”
As the seventh monthly winner, Rice Scozzafava cannot win another weekly or monthly contest in 2017, but she can still submit photos for inclusion in the weekly slideshow of entries at lcnme.com.
Rice Scozzafava’s photo will compete against the other 11 monthly winners at the end of the year as voters select the winner for 2017.
Submissions are now being accepted for the August #LCNme365 contest. The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate from the monthly sponsor, Long Winter Soap Co., of Waldoboro.
