The RSU 12 Board of Directors voted to postpone changes to the school unit’s cost allocation formula at its monthly meeting Feb. 9, putting off adoption of any new plan for at least a year.
The vote came after the RSU’s Finance Committee recommended holding off sending a revised formula to voters until it had examined other alternatives.
A vote to accept the new formula would have forwarded the plan on to town voters as a referendum.
The proposed cost sharing methodology would have taken into account student count and population when determining each town’s local additional contribution.
The decision to go back to the drawing board was made after two public hearings in Wiscasset and Windsor.
According to a memorandum circulated to the RSU 12 Board by Finance Committee Chairman Jerry Nault, the public expressed interest in recognizing “locally based financial costs and resources” in the cost sharing formula.
