A 33 year old South Bristol man was seriously injured when the four door sedan he was operating left the road way and rolled over before striking a tree Monday night in South Bristol.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Tony A. Eugley was ejected from the car as it rolled over. Eugley, the sole occupant of the vehicle was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, police say.
Eugley was operating a 1998 Honda four door sedan north on Rt. 129. The crash occurred in the Walpole area of South Bristol around 9:35 p.m. Eugley’s Honda slid sideways into the southbound lane and eventually into the southbound ditch where it rolled several times before striking a tree.
Eugley was transported to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta and later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries that do not appear to be life threatening, according to police.
Deputies are investigating this accident to determine its cause, but an initial evaluation at the scene has determined that speed was a factor. Because of the serious injuries Eugley sustained, a blood sample was obtained but its results will take several days.
An accident reconstruction specialist from the Sheriff’s Office did respond to the scene in order to document the events of the crash and better determine the contributing factors that resulted in this crash.
Deputies were joined at the scene by members of the Bristol Fire and Rescue, South Bristol Fire Dept. and Central Lincoln County Ambulance. Traffic in the area of this crash was rerouted for over two hours while deputies completed their investigation at the scene.
