Despite the early hour, the gym at Miller School in Waldoboro was packed with hundreds of parents and community members the afternoon of Jan. 16 to see the students perform in a school-wide Winter Concert.
Lead by Doug Kennedy, the facilitator of the music program at Miller, the students showcased a variety of musical skills such as singing with hand gestures for the younger grades, playing recorders for the fourth grade, and more complicated singing and instrumental pieces for the fifth and sixth graders.
The songs included some classic beginner pieces such as “Hot Cross Buns,” “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, and “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” and some faster, more difficult pieces such as the band tackling “Bile Them Cabbage Down” and the school chorus, directed by Anna-Marlies Myers, singing “Rockin’ Robin.”
