A woman was trapped inside her wrecked vehicle until firefighters were able to extricate her in the aftermath of a Damariscotta traffic accident Fri., Sept. 6.
The collision occurred at School St. and Main St. in the late afternoon hours as the setting sun was casting bright rays of light in the direction the woman would have been looking when she pulled out from School St. to cross Main St. toward the Town Office.
According to a witness at the scene, the woman entered the intersection from School St. in a Chevrolet Impala sedan at the same time as a full size pick-up northbound on Main St., and carrying a load of cordwood. The two vehicles collided violently, with the momentum of the northbound pick-up pushing the Impala into the northeast corner of the intersection, according to the witness. Some of the cordwood load flew off the back of the truck into the rear windows of the Impala as the impact of the pick-up truck stove in the driver’s side of the vehicle, trapping the driver.
Damariscotta Deputy Police Chief Chad Andrews was one of the first on the scene and with Central Lincoln County Ambulance personnel assisted the victim until the Damariscotta Fire Dept. arrived with extrication equipment. The woman was transported by Central Lincoln County Ambulance. Her name was not released at the scene.
