Damariscotta intends to hire acting Police Chief Chad Andrews as the next chief of the Damariscotta Police Dept. pending the “finalization” of his employment contract.
The Damariscotta Board of Selectmen unanimously agreed to this intention at a special, Sept. 19 meeting.
The selectmen and interim Town Manager Don Gerrish met behind closed doors, with and without Andrews, for about 90 minutes before voting.
Andrews and interim Town Manager Don Gerrish said they would meet the same day to discuss the former’s contract.
Andrews, 40, of Nobleboro, is a nine-year veteran of the Damariscotta Police Dept. Before continuing his career in Damariscotta, Andrews worked for the Boothbay Harbor Police Dept. for nine years.
The department’s ranking officer (sergeant) under former Damariscotta Police Chief Steve Drake, Andrews has been acting chief since April.
