The Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce is moving into a new office in downtown Newcastle, in the building formerly home to The Bank of Maine.
The chamber currently operates out of an office at 15 Courtyard St. in Damariscotta. It will move in the weeks ahead and plans to open in the new space by Oct. 6, according to the chamber newsletter.
“We are so excited by the increased visibility the new space will give us so that visitors coming to our region from the south on Route 1 will be able to stop by our office as they are entering town and pick up information about places to see and things to do in our area,” said Marva Nesbit, president of the board of directors. “When we discussed this at a recent board meeting, the feeling was unanimous that this new location will allow us to better serve our members and our communities.”
Ma’s Bobbin Works Inc. owners Dirk and Ann Poole, of Newcastle, own the 67 Main St. building and plan to open an antique and gift shop in the space formerly home to the lobby. The chamber offices will occupy the opposite side of the building.
