Damariscotta town officials are asking motorists on Chapman Street and Church Street to slow down and adhere to speed limits in the otherwise quiet neighborhood.
The Damariscotta Police Dept., with a $2000 federal grant, plans to set up an electronic speed limit sign on Church Street. The sign will alert drivers to their speed and collect data about average speed.
The department also plans to increase patrols in the area to address complaints from residents about speeding and drivers traveling the wrong way on the one-way stretch of Hodgdon Street.
