Representatives from three area food pantries received $1,200 checks from Damariscotta River Grill owners Jean Kerrigan and Rick Hirsch, the proceeds of a silent auction Nov.
12.
The $3,600 was raised from a silent auction of Anchor Inn memorabilia that took place during the inn’s closing weekend.
“The people who bid at the silent auction knew that the money was going to area food pantries, and the generosity of the local people is greatly appreciated,” Sharon
Hobson, Damariscotta River Grill wine director, said.
Lou Cook, the co-director of the Waldoboro Food Pantry; MaryAnn Look, the co-chair of the Ecumenical Food Pantry; and Donna Hart and Mary Alcox, directors of the New
Harbor Food Pantry; all accepted checks from the restaurant owners.
“The money will go to help fill our Thanksgiving baskets. The Ecumenical Food Pantry filled around 225 baskets last year, and are looking to fill 300 this year,”
MaryAnn Look said.
Lou Cook said the check will help the Waldoboro Food Pantry order Thanksgiving turkeys, while Donna Hart said the New Harbor Food Pantry will save their donation
until the new year.
“Donations to food pantries are always welcome, and we appreciate this donation,” Alcox said.
