The Damariscotta Police Department has promoted Ryan Chubbuck, a reserve officer with the department since October, to a full-time position.
Chubbuck will start a full-time schedule Dec. 12.
Damariscotta Police Chief Ron Young introduced Chubbuck to the Damariscotta Board of Selectmen Dec. 4.
The hire follows “an exhaustive search,” Young said. The full-time patrol officer position has been vacant since May 16.
Chubbuck, of Woolwich, currently works full time as a corrections officer at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, where he has been for about four years. He was a co-worker of Damariscotta Patrol Officers Devin Polizzotti and Jason Warlick at the jail.
Chubbuck “comes highly recommended” from Two Bridges, Young said. “He impressed me from day one, when he came in to meet me with his application in hand and he had a strong desire to be a police officer with this department.”
“I think he’s a good fit for our department. I think he’s a great fit for the town,” Young said. “I’m looking forward to having him come on board and work for us.”
Damariscotta Town Manager Matt Lutkus said he and Young are “very enthusiastic” about the hire.
“We interviewed several people during those weeks, and nobody really hit the button for us until our new officer came on board,” Lutkus said. “I’m delighted to have him here and it brings us up to full staffing, at least for the time being, and I think citizens here in Damariscotta can be deservedly proud of their police department.”
The department will have a full staff until Polizzotti departs in mid-January for the 18-week Basic Law Enforcement Training Program at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
Chubbuck will attend the training program within a year, Young said.
