The week of Thanksgiving is here and we have so much to be thankful for with all our friends and neighbors around our area.
We both enjoy going most every Wednesday to St. Andrew’s Church in Newcastle on Glidden Street. The service starts at 10 a.m. and is called Litany for Healing. We are a small group, but this group is so friendly and full of love and warmth for each other and offers prayers for all those people who are on our prayer list in our community.
Lincoln County has one of the most elderly and aging populations in the state of Maine. Being a good neighbor and keeping an eye on our older neighbors should be an every day event. This past week when we lost our electrical power, many of our friends and near-by neighbors called us to see if we were warm and to invite us to come over to their home to enjoy the warmth of their woodstove heat till the power came back on.
We are both grateful for having such good and caring neighbors around our neighborhood.
This week Alna Anchor put on a full Thanksgiving dinner at the lodge hall for all our widows and widowers. We all enjoyed sharing a fine Thanksgiving dinner with all of them. This is truly a wonderful way to share our brotherly love and friendship with our brothers and sisters.
We both enjoy going down to the Waltz coffee bar and have a good cup of coffee and being able to carry on a great conversation with our local friends over the past 25 years. We have photos of us sitting at the coffee bar with friends that are no longer with us, but we still cherish memories of all of them. Most all the Concord bus drivers come in each morning on their way to Boston and say good morning to all of us.
One of our coffee buddies always has a couple pieces of candy for the bus driver. One bus driver even plays and sings us a song and everyone at the coffee bar joins in with a lot of fun. Only this could happen in a wonderful small town like Damariscotta. Two of our coffee mates were sailors and the bus driver will play “Anchors Away,” and we all join in, which ends in a big clap of hands. What a good and wonderful way to start off the day.
Then, so often as we leave the coffee bar and start walking down the street to our car, we are stopped by someone and they often tell us how much they enjoyed our last article or even ask us what our next article will be about. We truly enjoy talking to these people who truly show an interest in our town and past history. Only this could happen in a great and caring community like Damariscotta.
The week of Thanksgiving is truly a time to pause and look back and think of all the blessings that have taken place in our lives over the past year. Just don’t take them for granted. We live in a great nation and are blessed by the number of all the wonderful things we have and are able to share with our families and friends.
The Lincoln County Assembly of God which is located on Business Route 1, just below our home, is offering a free Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings. Just come and enjoy a truly wonderful meal.
This area is full of caring people, helping one another.
We both wish our readers and the staff of The Lincoln County News a wonderful heart filled day of joy and good will to everyone.
