The swimming pool at Damariscotta Lake Farms, in Jefferson, is open for business. New managers Darlene and Pete Souza have been working around the clock to get the business up and running.
The 36 by 18 foot indoor heated pool is open for birthday parties, private family parties, private groups, or any occasion. The pool will be opened up seven days a week, any time of day or night, for any occasion, year round. The depth of the pool is three to eight feet.
The group cost is $50 for two hours. DLF is running a birthday party special, where groups of 15-20 kids will get two hours of pool time, pizza, cake and ice cream for a bargain price of $95. “We’ll do the decorating, the baking and the clean-up,” Darlene said.
The facility will also be offering swimming lessons and water aerobics in the near future. If there is enough interest in opening the pool for lap swimming, the Souza’s are open to that too.
“Whatever anyone wants,” Darlene said. If a group wants music at their pool party, or dancing, “no problem, we’ll do that too.”
The master plan of the Souza’s is to earn enough money from the use of the pool to purchase equipment for the kitchen. Once the kitchen has been refurbished, they plan to open a family style restaurant. Darlene has 20 years of experience in the food business, having worked at Country Farm Restaurant in Whitefield and the Jefferson Market, among others. Pete, a disabled veteran, owned Pete’s Pizza in Waldoboro. His pizza is famous at the Waldoboro Baptist Church, where he makes pizza for 100-200 people once a month.
Damariscotta Lake Farms is also offering catering services, from small groups, to business and organizations parties, and hope to do weddings in the future. They offer everything from appetizers, a buffet, to a complete meal (turkey, ham, prime rib, etc.).
The Damariscotta Lake Farm Bed and Breakfast will be ready to open by Thanksgiving. The Souza’s currently have two rooms ready to go, and are just waiting for the furnace to the main house to be repaired before they open.
The Souza’s hope to open the Damariscotta Lake Farms Restaurant by the first of the year. They will be serving typical Maine fare. “Keep it simple, keep it affordable, keep it down to earth, and keep it clean,” are the keys to running a restaurant in Maine, Pete said.
