Damariscotta’s Piper Village properties did not sell at a recent online auction, but the auction company is “in private negotiations” with potential buyers, a representative of the auction company said.
The auction ended Thursday, July 24 with a high bid of $105,000. The number “was a little shy of what the goal was for the seller-client,” Jill Daviero, of Tranzon Auction Properties, said.
“We did have several registered bidders for the online auction, but we have decided to keep going forward and try to either offer or sell individual lots or the entire package,” Daviero said.
Daviero did not say whether she believes a sale will take place right away.
“All I can tell you is that we’re working very, very hard for the seller-client and talking with several different parties, and we’re very hopeful that we can get these properties sold for the client,” she said.
Tranzon Auction Properties is accepting offers for the land, according to its website. For more information, visit http://www.tranzon.com.
A group of investors once hoped to foster a major business and housing development on the approximately 154 acres between Heater Road and School Street.
Damariscotta Development LLC and Great Salt Bay Development LLC own the land. Glenn Flanders, of Bowdoinham, leads a group of investors that control the companies through a third entity, Piper Village Development LLC.
The investors worked with the town of Damariscotta to reform zoning regulations in order to enable the development. The resulting proposals to amend the town’s land use ordinance failed, however, in townwide referendums in 2011 and 2012.
