Damariscotta residents passed a $1.25 million secondary education budget at a May 25 special town meeting without debate or the presence of a single citizen not elected to a municipal position.
The local share of the budget, due to increases in the fund beginning balance, state subsidy, a one-time injection of approximately $8000 in federal funds and a significant decrease in special education spending, is $1.03 million, a drop of about $150,000 (13 percent) from the previous fiscal year.
