In a race that came down to 15 votes between first and second place, Damariscotta photographer Dennis Boyd emerged victorious when the polls for the March #LCNme365 photo contest closed.
Boyd’s photograph, of Parsons Creek from Mill Road in Edgecomb, is the first of a new photo series taken with his iPhone. “I wanted to prove that I could take just as good of photos with my iPhone that I could with my SLR,” Boyd said.
For the winning photo, which he took March 9, Boyd used the Musecam app on his phone, which allows him greater control over the camera’s settings. He also made some adjustments in his Adobe Lightroom app.
The photo received a “crazy amount of likes and comments” when Boyd posted it on his Facebook page, and he decided to enter it in the #LCNme365 photo contest. He said he was excited to see the photo selected as a weekly winner by The Lincoln County News, and even more so when readers voted the photo the best of the month.
“It’s really special that the photo’s getting the recognition it has, not just from friends on Facebook, but also by the newspaper,” Boyd said. “I’m a portrait photographer – I shoot weddings, senior photos, stuff like that – so landscapes, for me, are a hobby. I don’t shoot them often, so it’s really cool this happened.”
In addition to having his photo featured on the front page of The Lincoln County News, Boyd will receive a $50 gift certificate from the March contest sponsor, JM Automotive, of Newcastle.
As the third monthly winner, Boyd cannot win another weekly or monthly contest in 2018, but he can still submit photos for inclusion in the weekly slideshow of entries at lcnme.com.
At the end of the year, Boyd’s photo will compete against the other 11 monthly winners as voters select the winner for 2018.
Submissions are now being accepted for the April #LCNme365 contest. The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate from the monthly sponsor, Newcastle Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Viper, of Newcastle.
