The Damariscotta Police Dept. “has been recognized by the Maine Labor Relations Board as an official union,” according to Damariscotta Town Manager Greg Zinser.
Zinser communicated the change in status, which “represents a major change in the operations and budgeting” for the department, in a March 9 letter to the Damariscotta Board of Selectmen and Budget Committee.
The letter appears in a large, spiral-bound booklet outlining the proposed municipal budget for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
Damariscotta Police Chief Steven Drake was unavailable for comment March 17.
A full report will follow in the March 24 edition of The Lincoln County News.
