The Damariscotta Police Department is investigating the burglary of at least one Church Street residence during the daylight hours of Tuesday, Nov. 4.
The burglar entered the residence through an unlocked back door between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., “went through” the house, and stole a handmade ceramic pot with about $50 in change inside, Damariscotta Police Chief Ron Young said.
The department has since recovered a couple of jewelry boxes, Young said, and the department believes the burglar might have hit more than one residence.
“According to the footprints, it looks like he went to one door, looked inside, it was locked, he went into another house, looked inside … so he may have gone all the way down Church Street,” Young said.
The department encourages neighborhood residents to check for missing items and lock their doors. Often people will not notice a jewelry theft until they look for a specific item, Young said.
The department has recovered some evidence. “We’re looking for somebody that’s probably very tall, has got a longer stride than I do, and a specific type of footwear,” Young said.
The department asks anyone with information about the burglary to call 563-1909.
